Featured Listing: 514 Thomas St. Stroudsburg Pa 18360

In this post we are focusing on a gem of a house nestled in the Hill District of Downtown Stroudsburg.  This incredible find is a true Victorian in every way, circa 1886 with HUGE original windows that drench the home in natural light!

Thomas porch

As you climb the stairs approaching the front entry, you are greeted by original solid wood doors with all the details one would expect from a home so carefully preserved from this era. The huge wrap around porch to my left, there was so much to take in I must admit, I was a bit overwhelmed by a feeling of awe and I hadn’t even made it inside!!

Thomas banister

As I entered the home the first thing that struck me was all the original woodwork! Everywhere my eyes landed took me to another detail to oooh and aaahhh over. From the grand staircase with a banister that you would have to see and touch to truly appreciate, to the incredible wood detailing the hugs the walls leading up the stairs to the second floor (see pictures above). There isn’t an inch of this home that wasn’t meticulously planned out and executed with love and craftsmanship. The feeling of this home is warm and welcoming and even though it is large and comes in just under 6,000 square feet at a whopping 5,996 square feet , each room feels cozy.  I visited this home on a rainy day and can only imagine what it looks like drenched in sun, every nook and cranny brought to life by the light! Even on a cloudy day, the home was well light thanks to the tremendous original windows (which still work!!).

Thomas Den_Office

There is an office/den immediately to the right of the foyer with large windows and a fireplace that showcases pictures of the home from the 1800’s in its original glory. A unique shape but again, cozy and peaceful.

Thomas diningroom

In the dining room my eyes were pulled to the ceiling where the original picture frame hooks still sit. I couldn’t help but imagine what might have hung from there over one hundred years ago when it was customary to suspend frame work from wire hanging from those very hooks in place of damaging the walls with nails.

As I made my way from one room to the next I had to pass through exquisite French doors that have been meticulously maintained. The glass panels are small and romantic, my words simply don’t do the home justice!

Thomas kitchen

In the kitchen, the current homeowners added a wall of windows that lends a feeling of a solarium neatly curated with living greenery that adds to the homes cozy country vibe. I repeatedly had to resist the urge to touch everything, which was painstaking! I was caught on several occasions dragging my fingers along this little piece of American history and apologized, but simply could not resist!

There is a front and back staircase which I adore, as it forces me to imagine the home filled with children on Christmas morning running down the back staircase to make their way to the Christmas tree. I had to force myself to pay attention to the words swirling around my mind as the homeowner graciously walked me through the homes history.  I couldn’t help but daydream about the many lives that crossed paths here, full of a magical history that only a home of this age and beauty could.

There are lots of incredible features in this home. It boasts four bedrooms, two floors of living space plus a walk-up attic with abnormally wide stairs and a bathroom with the original claw-foot tub (among other things)! An in-law suite with a kitchenette and laundry on the main living level (not in the basement as one would expect) that has access to the kitchen by way of a double door so both sides could lock it if need be. There is a half bath tucked under the stairs on the main staircase in the foyer where you take a few steps down and arrive in this adorable water closet with windows and forest green detailing. Even the radiators have exquisite detailing as one might expect in a home of this stature.

This home is everything I adore about my job! I spent the afternoon touring our little town’s slice of history, daydreaming of days past before the world and went and got itself in a hurry. So, I meandered through the home, as one should when presented with such a unique opportunity. Every inch of this home spells l.o.v.e. from the romantic widows walk that sits atop this home like its crowning glory to the incredible woodwork and beyond, this home is a home-buyer’s dream. If you are on the market for a Victorian era home, you have found your match. I will be daydreaming about this one for weeks!
